چکیده

background: health workers ability to provide high quality care can be adversely affected by many factors such as sleep deprivation associated with shift work. the aim of this study was to compare sleep disorders among shift workers and non-shift workers in kermanshah hospital (2005) methods: at first, demographic information of the participants were gathered. 653 volunteers were divided into two groups of shift workers and non-shift workers based on age, gender, marital status and education. the participants completed the global sleep assessment questionnaire for sleep problems. then data were analyzed using z –test and x 2, results: shift workers suffered from daily sleeping (p=0/001), daily dysfunction due to sleepiness (p=0/001), insufficient sleep (p=0/001) and sleep apnoea (p=0/001) as compared with non-shift workers significantly. conclusion: this study showed that there is a significant relation between shift work and sleep problem regarding daily sleepiness and apnoea and shift working. these problems can affect clinical performance and may be an important factor in patient safety and health worker's well-being.
